About the event
The Italian-born composer Gaetano Brunetti (1744-1798) spent most of his adult life working at the Spanish Court. This setting of the Stabat Mater, a beautiful poem to the Virgin of Sorrows, was written in 1764 when the composer was just twenty years old and two years after he had moved to Madrid with his parents.
This special performance is a first for Malta, with the score having been sourced from the Zentralbibliothek in Zurich, Switzerland. The performance is being held on the eve of the devotional feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, a national event that opens the Holy Week celebrations.
