Living Stones: Art & Spirituality at the Jesuits’ Church Complex

The Public Lecture programme at ‘The Oratories’ opens with a special roaming lecture around the Jesuits’ Church complex by Pietre Vive Malta. This special lecture goes beyond mere history, and presents the space as a living sacred space.

Ignatian spirituality places a special focus on the use of imagination, making the Jesuits natural patrons of the arts from the start of their mission in Malta and worldwide. The places they erected thus reflect this mindset, including the strong link with the Virgin Mary, who was so central to the spiritual journey of St. Ignatius and to the society he founded. 

The event will take the form of a guided itinerary, to delve into how the Jesuits' use of imagination, image and sacred space are embodied in the Jesuits' Church and its oratories.
