As 2023 draws to a close, the Jesuits’ Church Foundation invites you to celebrate in style with its packed cultural programme in its magnificent Oratories. It is with great pleasure that the JCF announces the completion of the restoration of the Oratory of the Onorati.


This coincides with the feast of St Cecilia, patron saint of musicians. To celebrate this, the concert Cecilia’s Legacy: Women in Song will be held there on Wednesday 22nd November at 19:30. The concert will feature mezzo-soprano Francesca Bartolo, and pianist Julia Miller, in a concert dedicated exclusively to female composers.


The following day, on Thursday 23rd November at 18:30, there will be a public lecture by Prof. Keith Sciberras on the early works of Melchiorre Cafà. Prof. Sciberras is one of the foremost authorities on Maltese Baroque Art, and the Head of Department of Art & Art History at the University of Malta.


December promises a to be an exciting month at the Oratories, as we approach the festive season. The first event, on Wednesday 6th December at 19:30, will be the official book launch of The World in a Sea: Catholics & the Mediterranean during the Pontificate of Pius XII. The book, edited by Rev. Nicholas Doublet, offers new insights on 20th century ecclesiastical history. The following day, on the eve of the feast of the Immaculate Conception, there will be a concert of Baroque works in praise of the Virgin Mary.


Mezzosoprano Clare Ghigo, together with Maria-Elena Farrugia on continuo, present Haec Est Regina on Thursday 7th December at 19:30. The concert includes works by Pergolesi, Vivaldi, and Handel. All events are free of charge, although donations at the door in support of the cultural programme are appreciated. Access to the Oratories is from the side of the church on Archbishop Street.
