The ‘Music & More at the Jesuits’ series is back for another season spanning music recitals, literary events, public lectures and more! The season will run from October 2023 to June 2024.

Located within the impressive former Jesuits’ Church complex, the programme offers high quality cultural events that are accessible to all. After the restoration of the magnificent Oratory of the Immacolata, this season will also see the completion of works on the Oratory of the Onorati, as well as work on the main church.

The series will kick off on Thursday 19th October 2023 at 19:30 with a season opening concert featuring a harp trio. The programme, which features works by Bach, Schubert, and many more, will be performed by Maria Conrad (violin), Alexandre Razera (viola), and Britt Arend (harp).

This season promises to be another exciting musical offering with concerts that showcase established as well as upcoming musicians. It will offer a wide range of genres and formations, including sacred music, female composers, contemporary music, rarely performed repertoire and much more! All concerts start at 19:30.

The season will once again offer a series of literary events, with a broad range of events from book launches to emerging authors. Highlights include a celebration of Dù Theatre Company’s 20th anniversary in February 2024 as well as a celebration of the late poet Oliver Friggieri in April 2024. Our first literary event will be SOMNUM: Sejħet in-Ngħas by writer Glen Calleja on Thursday 2nd November at 20:00, on All Souls Day. All other literary events start at 19:30.

The public lecture series will also continue this season with an even wider array of topics delivered by some of Malta’s most prominent academics and researchers. The first public lecture will be on Thursday 26th October at 18:30 with a lecture by Dr Reuben Grima on antiquarianism in 17th century Malta. Subsequent lectures will cover topics from Astronomy to Ancient Mesopotamian Studies to Paper Conservation. Speakers include experts such as Prof. Keith Sciberras, Dr Olvin Vella, Dr Theresa Zammit Lupi, and Dr Mark Sagona. All lectures start at 18:30.

Other exciting ventures include forays into visual arts, including the exhibition Apotheosis by Darren Tanti in collaboration with Valletta Cultural Agency, as well as forays into theatre with a collaboration with the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts.

The season is once again in the hands of Alex Vella Gregory, the Artistic Director of the Music & More at the Jesuits programme. The programme aims to offer high quality events that are accessible to all, which is why entrance to all events is by free donation. The programme remains committed towards artistic excellence, fostering dialogue and creating a welcoming community that connects through culture.
